Community Service

Ogden Rotary Centennial Park
The Ogden Rotary Club is committed to helping children.  To celebrate 100 Years of Rotary, the Ogden Rotary built a handicap accessible park for the children in inner-city Ogden. We teamed up with Kaboom and The Home Depot to put together this amazing project.  In one day, with over 100 volunteers, we put up a beautiful park in Ogden.  The park is located right next to Lorin Farr Park on the Ogden River Parkway. This project was an enormous success and serves hundreds of children.  It has really enhanced the usage and beauty of this historic park.

The Dictionary Project

This is one of our favorite annual projects.  Each year we deliver a dictionary to every third grade student in the Ogden and Weber School Districts to help improve literacy in Northern Utah.  Last year we deliver about 3,000 dictionaries every year. Literacy is a fundamental aim of Rotary and we are committed to helping each child have a chance to improve literacy. Many of the third graders comment this is the first book that is their own.  While delivering the dictionaries, we also show them how to use a dictionary and the tools it has to offer.

Serving Other Local Organizations
The Ogden Rotary Club is committed to helping Ogden.  We want this to be a wonderful place to live and play.  We have a deep commitment to organizations that strive, like us, to better our community. We have supported numerous organizations in their efforts. We will continue to help build up and strengthen this great community. As one, we have little influence.  United - we can do something great.

International Service

In partnership with Weber State University, in Ghana, Africa, the medical records have been computerized at Ghana’s major hospital, including the shipment of an ambulance containing medical supplies and equipment, expanding its ability to aid legions of needy local people.

In addition, an on going project in Ghana in partnership with Weber State University’s Respiratory Therapy Department has brought donated supplies to the University of Ghana where a new Respiratory Therapy program has been developed.  Several Ogden Rotary Club members have traveled to Ghana in to provide service to the Ghana residents.

Donating over $20,000 to improve efficiency of medical care to the people of Ghana, we provided the funding needed for Weber State University’s computer science department to develop software to computerize medical records and provide IT training for the country’s largest hospital.

Partnering with other Rotary clubs in Utah, our club is helping with facility upgrades at the Ngala School for the deaf. These upgrades include new solar panels, new roofs and adding a water tank with drip system for water conversation.

In partnership with the Rotary Club of Calcutta, India, we distributed over 4,000 life-straws (hand-held water purification systems) to needy children in that country, saving lives from water-born diseases.  In addition we have provided dictionaries to Calcutta school children.

Teaming up with the Rotary Club of Layton, we helped build an orphanage in a very needy town in Mexico as well as working on clean water projects and other community needs.
